Yes, exactly! I definitely picture Tavros aching for a palemate, because while some of his friends were close (Aradia and Terezi while flarping), none of them quite compared to Gamzee and Hussie did write them as best friends, similarly to how he wrote Karkat and Sollux despite how Gamzee and Karkat are actually palemates! I have no doubt whatsoever that Tavros really had all of Gamzee's best interests at heart. And with all the crap he was getting from Vriska, and even being kind of downplayed by other members of his friend group, I'm sure he was very lonely and wanting of someone he could have a pale connection with. But Gamzee was too far along his red feelings and to ignorant of the dysfunctionality of his relationship with Karkat to even consider a palemating with Tavros. ;;
Both of them I definitely feel had unrequited feelings on both sides.
